PENSIONERS in their glad rags were treated to a charity opera concert on Tuesday.

The Abbey Community Centre, in Belsize Road, West Hampstead, hosted a performance from Connaught Opera – a charity singing group which lays on free entertainment for over-60s.

Sponsored by the Hampstead Wells and Campden Trust, which provides grants for the elderly, the trio visit hospitals, day care centres, sheltered housing and community-based clubs to perform.

Pensioner Bell Johanason said: “It was like a past era. It was wonderful.”

Abbey Community Centre manager Jane Edwards added: “The consensus from the audience was that it was a fantastic evening and we were repeatedly asked when we could do it again.”

The evening was hosted by the community centre and the Kilburn Good Neighbours Scheme.
