Dog owners facing a new crackdown

UNDERCOVER enforcement officers are taking to the streets and parks of Islington to confront irresponsible dog owners.

Those who don’t clear up their pet’s mess will run the risk of a fixed penalty notice of £80 as part of tough action against fouling.

Plain clothes officers will patrol to make sure dog waste is scooped up, bagged and put in a general litter bin or red   “dog” bin.

Since April council officers have issued 62 notices for dog fouling, all of which have been paid.  

Councillor Paul Smith, Islington’s executive member for environment, said: “It’s disgusting and dangerous, yet a mindless few still let it happen. There is a simple message for irresponsible owners – if your dog fouls and you don’t pick it up, you’re seriously risking a fine or even a court appearance.”
