Square deal – Solar power to the people courtesy of the Climate Change Fund

Published: 15 October, 2010

PENSIONER Violet Allan is on course to save £100 on her annual fuel bill thanks to solar panels installed for free by Islington Council.

The 96-year-old from Holloway was the 100th householder to receive the solar system through the borough’s Climate Change Fund.

“Fuel poor” residents – who spend more than 10 per cent of the income on energy bills – will be considered for the scheme. Islington environment chief Councillor Paul Smith said:  “This will cut bills as well as helping the environment. It’s win-win.”

People wishing to apply for panels from the fund should ring 0800 953 1221.
