Rolling Stones duo to line up for Guitar Heroes Unite gig - Ronnie Wood and Mick Taylor in bid to save historic 100 Club

ROLLING Stones guitarists Ronnie Wood and Mick Taylor are among stars lining up to perform at a gig aimed at saving a historic West End venue.

The 100 Club in Oxford Street, established in the 1940s, has hosted music legends including Louis Armstrong, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Kinks and The Sex Pistols. 

It is said every generation associates it with a different genre of music, but the venue, now surrounded by chain retail stores, is  currently under threat of closure.

Owner Jeff Horton has said soaring rents and business rates, as well as rising VAT and alcohol duty, are to blame for the £100,000 yearly loss the club has racked up over the past three years. 

Organisers hope the high profile event, entitled Guitar Heroes Unite, will raise both funds and publicity for the campaign to save it. 

It’s feared that, failing a 11th-hour intervention from a sponsor, the venue will roll down its shutters for the last time this Christmas.

The line-up will be headlined by Californian New Blues guitarist Stephen Dale Petit, who is promising to attract a number of additional rock stars, the identity of whom organisers are yet to reveal.
