A CHURCH in Finsbury said let there be light – and thanks to a successful eight-month funding project – now there is.
St Clement’s Church in King Square is now the proud owner of a new low-energy, low-maintenance lighting system, which illuminates the portico, church tower, spire and the clock.
On Sunday, Bishop Graeme Knowles, the Dean and Chapter of St Paul’s Cathedral, joined churchgoers to bless the lights as part of the patronal festival celebrations, giving thanks for the life and witness of Clement, Bishop of Rome.
EC1 New Deal for Communities funded the £18,000 project, with help from Islington Council.
Father David Allen, vicar of St Clement’s, said: “We are delighted with that the new lighting will highlight this important, historic local building. It puts us back on the map. And as the latest of a series of projects to improve the estate, it is a very visible legacy of the work of EC1 New Deal for Communities.
“I’m very grateful to everyone who supported this project and helped make it a reality.”
