STAFF and young people at a Swiss Cottage youth club have gone to great heights to secure their future.

The brave fundraisers made more than £6,000 for the Winchester Project, in Winchester Road, by taking part in a sponsored skydive in Suffolk.

Despite a cloudy start to the day, the sun came out in time for the recent jump. Funds raised by the fearless bunch will be spent on the club’s minibus and ensuring popular activities continue despite financial constraints.

Marilena Dourtme, who is completing a six-month placement at the Winch, organised the jump. She said: “As the plane took off and the first parachutes appeared in the sky, mixed feelings of excitement, fear and agony appeared on everyone’s faces. Time flew by and the sun finally came out, bright and shiny, creating the perfect weather conditions for our jumps.

“We had a great time, spent the day with amazing people and cannot wait for our next skydive to take place.”

The popular club, which began life in 1973 when activists took over an abandoned Victorian pub in Winchester Road and turned it into a facility for disadvantaged young people, provides valuable activities and support to youngsters in Camden.
