Camden Mayor Jonathan Simpson presents awards at Working Men’s College
Published: 18th November, 2010
MAYOR Jonathan Simpson has presented awards to students and staff at the Working Men’s College in Camden Town.
More than 50 students have since found full-time jobs and 150 gained qualifications ranging from security, computers, admin and support teaching after completing courses. More than 100 have also trained up as volunteers.
Roger Hamilton, who was homeless a year ago, took on a computer course at the Crowndale Road centre. He is now passing on his skills on a similar course for homeless people he developed at the St Mungo’s charity in Holborn.
WMC education manager Liam Dennis said: “In difficult economic times, the Working Men’s College is providing an exceptional service to local people and employers and has had some incredible results and remarkable achievement from its students this year.”
WMC, founded in 1854, is the oldest adult education college in Europe.
