The Xtra Diary - Punk producer Mark Zermati's Underground art exhibition
LEGENDARY punk producer Marc Zermati is literally going underground next week, with a rather unusual exhibition of music memorabilia in the Joe Strummer subway on the Edgware Road.
Zermati, who is best known for his work with Iggy Pop and the New York Dolls and his legendary Open Market store in Paris, will show off his wares in the Subway Gallery at his first Rock Is My Life exhibition.
Among the treasures are rare posters, original drawings, lithographs, tickets, fan mail from the likes of Lou Reed, Motorhead, Elvis Costello and the Sex Pistols.
Just look who’s on the ticket
Those mischievous Labour councillors.
You’d think they would be too busy on the doorsteps explaining hung parliaments to play any old-fashioned canvassing japes.
But when those little juxtapositions crop up and the Private Eye back pages are burning a hole in your retina, then the cameras will click.
So we bring you the Westminster City Council traffic wardens who it is good to see are as indiscriminate in their ticketing as they are supposed to be – paying no mind to the Conservative placard displayed in the windscreen.
And from the chance to the designed. Cameron House in St John’s Wood was obviously a photo-opportunity too good to miss for these Labour supporters.
Diary doesn’t know the outcome of the election as this is written but suspects there might be one or two scrapbooks on the table among Labour politicians.
Sikh celebrations in the square
The smell of samosas filled the air in Trafalgar Square on Sunday, as crowds gathered to celebrate the Sikh new year Vaisakhi.
As well as the mouthwatering food, there was live Bhangra music from UK star H-Dhami and Heera, and a celebration of Sikh athletes including 15-year-old England hockey star Ashpal Bhogal.
London mayor Boris Johnson said: “This festival celebrates Sikh values of generosity and respect.
“This is a wonderful family event that all Londoners have enjoyed.”
