THE Duke of York officially opened the new front entrance of the Royal Free Hospital on Thursday.
Prince Andrew, a patron of the Hampstead NHS Trust, met staff and volunteers for more than an hour before unveiling a plaque. The Royal Free Charity, which manages patient donations to the hospital, paid £4.2million towards the project. Most of the funding came from a one-off bequest from a Holocaust survivor who was treated at the hospital.
Royal Free chief executive David Sloman said: “The new entrance has given a real boost to morale. It shows real generosity from the charity too.”
