Passing on lessons – Students at South Camden Community School write book
Published: 18 March 2010
ENTERPRISING pupils in Somers Town have written and published their own book to help youngsters deal with the stress of starting secondary school.
A group of eight pupils from South Camden Community School, in Charrington Street, formed a company called Empire Books in October, and have been working on the book ever since.
They launched it at a recent trade fair in Camden Lock Market and hope to roll it out in the borough’s primary schools. Aimed at pupils aged between 11 and 14, it is designed to ease the transition from primary to secondary school.
Year 11 pupil Lizzie Swann said: “The book is written by pupils who have just come out of that stage of our lives, so we know exactly how they are feeling. We’ve written real-life stories about people that we’ve interviewed, and we’ve taken stories from our own experiences. We want them to know they are not alone.”
The project was run by Young Enterprise – a charity that organises programmes to give young people experience in business.
