March in memory of schoolgirl Jessie Wright

FAMILY and friends of schoolgirl Jessie Wright, who was found dead in an alleyway off York Way, will join a massive march on Sunday to raise money for a memorial to the teenager.

The march, organised by friend Stevie Parker, will depart at 2pm, from Outram Place, on the Delhi Outram Estate, off Randall’s Road, where mourners have created a makeshift shrine.

A flock of doves will be released to mark the start of the march, which will pass along Caledonian Road, Market Road and York Way, then back to Outram Place.

Jessie’s friends are planning to wear pink, bright colours, flowers and T-shirts bearing her picture. 

Some will wear pyjamas and Ugg boots in tribute to Jessie, who would often go out dressed the same.

Jessie’s aunt Sarah Lucraft said: “Thank you to everybody who’s doing this. It means a lot to the family.”

The 16-year-old former Maria Fidelis pupil was found dead in suspicious circum­stances on Thursday, March 4. 

A post mortem gave the cause of death as compression of the neck.
