BREAKDANCING and spinning on decks jazzed up the grand opening of a new community centre this week.
The Samuel Lithgow Youth Centre in the Regent’s Park Estate was virtually derelict until its £1.1million refurbishment began a year ago – and on Saturday it threw open the doors to its new facilities, including a recording studio with mixing decks and an IT hub with 12 computers. Multi, 17, from the Regent’s Park Estate, was among the performers who entertained young people and parents in a dance showcase to round off the party.
The refurbishment – which was supported by the council, Big Lottery Fund, John Lyon’s Charity, Garfield Weston Foundation, Mercers Charitable Foundation, British Land and Addison Lee – was completed on time and within budget.
