Burnham tower block lift gun terror

Published: 19 March 2010

TENANTS in a Swiss Cottage tower block were said last night (Wednesday) to have been left “terrified” after a couple were robbed at gunpoint inside their home.

The raider struck in the Burnham tower in Adelaide Road on Sunday after pulling a gun on the couple in the lift.

A meeting was held last night by the Burnham Residents Association to discuss security concerns in the block, which is one of five tower blocks which make up the Chalcots estate, over fears that the same man could attempt to enter another block and carry out similar attacks.

Detective Inspector Heather Carpenter, of Camden’s Robbery Squad, said: “I can confirm an investigation is underway following a robbery. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious.”

A police notice distributed inside the block described the incident as a “very serious robbery” and said the man, aged between 28 and 35 with a slight goatee beard, may have been loitering outside prior to the robbery.
