£700,000 climbing wall opens at Seymour Leisure Centre

MARYLEBONE is a bit short on peaks and overhangs, but that’s all about to change.

The Seymour Leisure Centre has just opened a new climbing wall – at 

13 metres the tallest in central London – so thrill-seekers can hang tough whatever the weather.

The Lord Mayor of Westminster Duncan Sandys opened the facility at the Seymour Street centre this week as budding climbers were shown the ropes.

Indoor climbing is one of the country’s fastest-growing sports and it is expected that the £700,000 wall will attract more than 30,000 climbers a year.

Councillor Ed Argar, cabinet member for community services, said: “This exciting new climbing centre offers an alternative sports activity for our residents to enjoy and builds on our current sports facilities which are some of the best in the capital.”
