BEFORE the world decided the vuvuzela was South Africa’s least welcome contribution to civilisation after apartheid, Mayor of London Boris Johnson, got to blow the horn in blissful ignorance with pupils from St Joseph’s Primary School in Covent Garden.
The collective trumpet in Trafalgar Square was to mark the launch of the World Cup and a special one-off screening of the opening game.
Mr Johnson has travelled to South Africa this week to try to pick up some tips for England’s 2018 World Cup bid, as well giving the national team some needed support.
He said: “Despite my own legendary prowess at football, let no one underestimate my support for the England squad. I’m immensely proud that so many are from London teams. I look forward to hearing three lions roar – let’s bring back the cup to our shores.”
