A POLICE taskforce launched in Islington earlier this year to deal with rising drunkenness has already made hundreds of arrests.
Inspector Mike Cowie, in charge of the Safer Neighbourhoods alcohol taskforce, said this week: “We want to get the message across that the community won’t stand for noise and anti-social activities.”
He was speaking following the revelation that Islington North Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn is plagued by late-night noise from revellers outside his Holloway home.
A team of six officers from the taskforce work from 8pm to 6am Thursdays to Saturdays to deal with anti-social behaviour associated with late-night clubs and pubs.
The team often targets specific trouble-spots and visits them first at 8pm to issue warnings to potential trouble-makers.
They will then return later that night to ensure people are behaving. Insp Cowie said: “When it comes to late-night noise we will liaise with the council’s noise patrol and go out and speak to whoever is responsible.”
