BARGAIN hunters flocked to Kentish Town on Friday to see actress June Whitfield open a new charity shop in the high street.

The 84-year-old, best known for her roles in TV sitcoms Terry and June and Absolutely Fabulous, cut the ribbon at the new Age UK shop in Kentish Town Road.

Formerly a Help the Aged store for more than 20 years, it is one of the first to be transformed to Age UK, which brings together Help the Aged and Age Concern.

Ms Whitfield, who first became involved with Help the Aged through a project called Stage for Age, which recruited actors, sportsmen and celebrities to raise money for elderly charities, said: “I’m delighted to have been able to come today and open the new shop, and I’m happy to see the charities coming together. It can be difficult to organise but it can be done – rather like the coalition government.”
