Extra time – Five hours non-stop football raises cash for kids’ bone marrow unit at St Mary’s Hospital

TEAMS of footballers played non-stop for five hours in Paddington as part of a fund-raising day for St Mary’s Hospital.

Players in the stamina-sucking football marathon were joined by cyclists, runners and walkers in the area – all of whom displayed similar feats of endurance – to raise money for the bone marrow transplant unit in the paediatric department.

Unit director Dr Josu de la Fuente said: “This is a very exciting opportunity to raise awarenesses and support a group of very ill children and their families, who spend very long periods of time isolated.”

The community day was organised by staff at the nearby Hilton Metropole Hotel.
