THE face-painters were busy on Saturday as children flocked to Wray Crescent’s Summer Festival

Youngsters enjoyed the traditional fairground games and took their turns on the popular bungee trampolines at the festival in Upper Holloway, while older visitors mingled and tucked into delicious snacks.

Organiser Suzanna den Dulk said: “It all looked lovely and went off smoothly.

There was occasional light rain and sunny spells. The Facepainters kept busy and the bungee trampolines were very popular.”

She added: “Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn came and said a few words and Islington Council leader Catherine West helped with the raffle draw at the end – and with litter picking and gazebo dismantling!”

Christ the King Primary School won the U12 five-a-side tournament over competitors Grafton, Montem, Newcourt Christian Centre, Muslim Community Centre and St Marks.

One resident said: “Wray Crescent used to be quite an intimidating area for locals because of the gangs, and the festival was created to bring back families and local people to the area and make them feel happy going there.”
