ONE small step for residents, one great leap towards a greener Camden?

The Town Hall unveiled their latest weapons in the war on waste this week.

Food and garden refuse will be made into compost for use in the borough’s public parks and more plastic containers will streamline different forms of recycling.

A new green service will be rolled out to homes from June 21 in a bid to double Camden’s recycle rate by 2015.

Roughly a quarter of home rubbish is recycled under the current scheme. 

Under the new guidelines, residents will be able to recycle all paper, card, glass bottles and jars, food and drinks cartons, tins, cans and mixed household plastic packaging.

Specialist “advisors” will be visiting households over the coming months to answer questions and explain the importance of the project.

Councillor Sue Vincent, the Town Hall’s Environment chief, said: “Our aim is to help residents understand the purpose and importance of recycling while highlighting how every person can play a role in protecting the environment. We cannot ignore the fact that we need to find better ways of dealing with our rubbish.”
