A NEW market aimed at reviving Soho’s reputation as the “larder of London” has been given the go-ahead.

The Food Lovers Market in Rupert Street will be open every Saturday, with around 30 stalls selling everything from Jersey butter to pigs’ trotters. TV chef Ed Baines will run an oyster stall.

It is the brainchild of food writer Henrietta Green, the woman behind Borough Market in south London, and will be the first new market in Soho for nearly 120 years. Ms Green said: “I remember back in the 1970s when there was such a rich variety of producers from fishmongers, butchers and game dealers. The Food Lovers Market in Soho aims to place Soho firmly back on the foodie map as one of the destination one-stop shops accessible and affordable for all Londoners and visitors alike.”

Later this year the market will host a celebration to mark National Cherry Day, as well as a special three-day Christmas market.
