Fire engine accident causes long delays at Camden Town intersection

A FIRE engine racing to the scene of a traffic accident was delayed when it was hit by a car in Camden Town.

The emergency vehicle was responding to a call when it was involved in the collision at around 1.30pm today (Thursday).

Witnesses said the car took an unauthorised left from Parkway into Camden High Street – where the traffic is only permitted to go straight-on – and went into the back of the emergency vehicle.

A second fire engine (pictured) attended the scene and the 27 year-old female driver of the car was treated for minor injuries, but no-one was seriously hurt.

Both roads were closed off while fire-fighters cleared debris from around the damaged car, causing severe tailbacks.

John Eager, who was working on a fruit stall directly opposite where the accident took place, said: “The driver turned left and hit a passing fire engine. No-one was hurt but this is a busy junction and it was carnage.”

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the London Fire Brigade.
