Top 50 accolade for Maida Vale school - St George's Roman Catholic School shows big improvement
ST George’s Roman Catholic school in Maida Vale has been named this week in a list of the top 50 most improved schools in the country.
Headteacher Martin Tissot at the Lanark Road school can expect a letter of congratulation from the schools minister after the average number of pupils achieving five GCSE passes including English and mathematics rocketed to 51 per cent from 31 the previous year.
The government published its official statistics for last summer’s GCSE results on Wednesday.
While overall Westminster achieved its highest ever average results, take out the independent schools and it is clear there is still work to be done.
The average pass rates for its state-funded secondary schools is 43.5 per cent – compared with 50.7 per cent nationally.
Paddington Academy’s results were down from 41 per cent to 34 per cent and Westminster City School also dropped 9 per cent to a total of 45 per cent.
