Chris Martin’s bid to build ‘security wall’

Chris Martin

POP star Chris Martin wants to build a three metre high metal fence between his back garden and his neighbours – because of fears that his home is not secure enough.
The Coldplay singer, married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow, with whom he has two children, has asked Camden Council for permission to build the metal barrier along one side of the back garden in his Belsize Park home, replacing a brick wall topped off with a wooden  fence.
The garden, according to the application, has mature trees running by the wall which would be replaced, and already has a metal fence at the foot of it.
According to documents filed with the Town Hall, Mr Martin claims he needs the new fence to improve security.
The singer’s house already has an electronically operated gate across its front garden, which has been converted into off street parking, complete with an intercom to vet people coming in and out.
The exterior of the home is also covered by CCTV.
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said they felt the fence was a step too far. They said: “You can’t get round the side of the houses and into the gardens  anyway.  It’s rather over the top. Who cares who he is?
“Other houses in the street are as much at risk of opportunist burglaries as his is. We don’t ask for huge fences between our homes.”
