MOVE over Amir Khan, women could soon be taking over the ring – with a little help from Islington Boxing Club.
Thanks to a £,1000 grant, the club in Hazelville Road, near Elthorne Park, has installed changing rooms and showers for women for the first time. The money, from Islington Council, will enable the club to train more women and girls.
Liberal Democrat councillor Julia Williams said: “Islington Boxing Club is a local institution, and Lib Dem councillors are proud to support it – particularly because it gives young people something positive to do.”
Resident Lorraine Constantinou said: “The boxing club is really valued by local people, and I hope that more girls get a chance to try the sport. Thanks to our councillors for winning this money for the club.”
