Islington Council reveals £1.8m cuts in services for children
Published: 12 February 2010
CHILDREN and vulnerable adults will bear the brunt of the Town Hall’s £9.5million budget cuts, it was revealed on Tuesday.
Nearly £4.5million of proposed savings announced at an executive meeting at Islington town hall will hit children’s and adult social services. Children’s services will lose £1.8million, while another £2.5million will be lost from housing and adult social services.
Finance chief Lib Dem councillor John Gilbert insisted: “It’s not going to impact on front-line services. It’s more about back-office efficiencies.”
There are plans to cut £120,000 from the council’s noise patrol team, which responds to residents’ complaints about disturbances.
The plan is to merge the Town Hall’s noise team with that of Homes for Islington, which focuses on complaints on estates.
