TEACHERS and pupils at Parliament Hill School are celebrating after being named in the top 10 per cent of secondary schools in the country by Ofsted inspectors.

Headteacher Susan Higgins said she was “delighted” after the Highgate Road school was given the top accolade of “outstanding”.

The glowing report shows “striking improvements” at the girls’ school, which was only rated as “good” back in 2008.

Government inspectors who visited the school last month found pupils receiving the support they need to become “confident”, “successful” learners and “responsible citizens”.

Ms Higgins said: “This tremendous achievement is a reflection of the dedication, energy, professional talents and sheer hard work of our staff.”

The report praised the school’s leadership, which it described as being “exemplified by a clear vision of excellence in all fields”.

It continued: “All leaders contribute to a strategic plan for the school’s development, which rejects complacency and continually strives for improvement.”

Inspectors also recognised “striking” improvements in mathematics and “rapid” improvements in attendance, which was previously low.

Year 9 student Sabrina Samah said: “I feel really proud to get such a high mark from Ofsted, proud to be a Parliament Hill girl and proud to be a small part of this big shining star.”
