OUR annual Christmas Hamper appeal smashed records this year despite the bleak economic outlook – thanks to the generosity of readers.

Supporters of the New Journal dug deep into their pockets to raise £14,000 – double our previous record – to spend on hampers and toys for the needy and isolated across the borough.

Father Christmas and his little elf brought a smile to elderly people, single parent families and children as they delivered 300 luxury hampers and boxes full of toys to deserving residents.

The appeal is now complete and hundreds of people have unwrapped their gifts, with a little help from Camden’s Mayor Jonathan Simpson and Councillor Tulip Siddiq.
