Memorial design ‘like Hitler’s Berlin of 1930s’

A RESPECTED architect whose father was a bomber pilot has criticised a war memorial planned for Green Park, saying it reminds him of buildings designed by Nazi architect Albert Speer.
Ivor Hall, who runs an architects practice in north London, said plans for the Bomber Command memorial were “…reminiscent of the grandiose monumental architecture of Hitler’s Berlin in the 1930s”.
He added: “Since the design by fellow architect Liam O’Connor for this memorial was first revealed to the public in February this year I, and a number of others, have been extremely critical, not to the idea of the memorial, but simply of its grandiose design.”
