NOMINATIONS have opened for next year’s Islington Mayor’s Civic Awards.

The annual event, which sees unsung local community heroes honoured for their positive and selfless contribution to the lives of others, is again expected to bring dozens of nominations across the borough.

Islington mayor Councillor Mouna Hamitouche said: “Every day across Islington, people who care about their local community are making an extraordinary difference.

“These actions often go unrewarded but we want them to get the recognition they truly deserve.

“That’s what the Mayor’s Civic Awards are all about – capturing the unique spirit of Islington by honouring those special people.”

Nominees could be a family member, a local business person or a next-door neighbour, and close on  Friday January 21.

The awards will be presented by the mayor at a special ceremony at Islington Town Hall in Upper Street on Thursday March 24.
