FORMER Labour Party leadership contest candidate David Miliband attended the Holy Trinity and St Silas School’s Christmas fair on Saturday.

But for the excited youngsters it was Children’s BBC star James Bachman who was the bigger draw. The TV actor and writer – star of Richard Curtis’s hit Children’s BBC show Sorry, I Have Got No Head – cut the ribbon to open the event.

The school in Kentish Town is attempting to raise £18,000 for a lighting rig to help with its tradition of staging Shakespeare plays each year. There was a Santa’s grotto as well as parents dressed as elves, and reindeer and snowmen to boost their efforts.

Tracey Oakley, chairwoman of the school’s fundraising group Parents in Partnership, said: “Arts and creativity is at the centre of the school’s approach to education.”
