CAMDEN Town came to a standstill on Monday afternoon when a pedestrian was hit by a road maintenance lorry and became trapped underneath.
Shoppers watched in dismay as firefighters worked to release the woman, who was hit by the vehicle at around 2.30pm in Camden High Street near HSBC bank.
Two ambulances and two fire engines attended the scene and police cordoned off the busy junction with Parkway as the woman was treated by paramedics. She was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel with a fractured leg, but her condition was not critical.
The accident closed the high street north of the tube station for nearly three hours while all the traffic was diverted along Kentish Town Road.
The lorry driver remained at the scene and spoke to police, but was not arrested.
