HUNDREDS of students across Westminster achieved record successes in their A-level results.

Paddington Academy doubled the number of students scoring top grades, with 21 per cent awarded grade As or A*s. Their overall pass rate rose to 98 per cent – a four per cent rise on last year.

Overall Westminster schools boasted excellent scores, with high numbers of students getting A to E grades. Nationally the figure is expected to be 97 per cent.

Pupils at Westminster City School boosted their grades by eight per cent, with 63 per cent achieving A to C grades.

At Pimlico Academy, nerves were frayed when students were told they would have to wait for their results because of a computer glitch at the exam board. The council confirmed that all students received their results by the end of the day.

Nickie Aiken, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “I would like to congratulate both pupils and staff in achieving such impressive results… I am delighted that many pupils will have achieved the grades they were aiming for with outstanding successes across the borough.”
