FRIENDS paid tribute to trainee taxi driver Aubrey “Smudge” Campbell, 46, who died after being thrown from his motorbike in an accident in Seven Sisters Road, Holloway.

Father-of-two Mr Campbell from the Andover estate, Finsbury Park, fell from his Honda 125cc when it veered out of control last Thursday July 29 at 1.40pm after clipping a pedestrian in the road.

The accident happened at the junction with Axminster Road. The pedestrian escaped with minor injuries.

Mourners including family and friends placed dozens of flowers and cards on a lamp-post close to the scene of the accident.

Andover estate caretaker Steve Hughes said he’d known Aubrey for about 20 years.

“He was a very nice bloke,” Mr Hughes said. “Obviously his family, including two young sons, are absolutely devastated.”

Mr Hugh’s colleague Paul Ronan said Mr Campbell had only recently decided to do “the knowledge” with a view to becoming a taxi driver. “Everyone liked him around here. He would always help anyone in need.”

A post-mortem took place on Tuesday at Whittington Hospital mortuary. An inquest will open and adjourn in due course at St Pancras Coroner’s Court.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is urged to call the Road Death Investigation Unit at Alperton Traffic Garage on 020 8998 5319.
