Carnival mood – Kids in Notting Hill run-up
Published: 13 August, 2010
STEEL pans, painted faces and bouncy castles were the order of the day, as children swarmed Kensington memorial park in the run-up to the Notting Hill Carnival weekend for a ‘junior carnival’ event.
Playgroups and schools brought their pupils along to the event last Monday to take part in a costume-making competition around the theme of Fruit Fest, organised by the Children and Parents’ Carnival Association.
This is the 22nd year of the junior carnival, which featured youngsters and professionals alike on the steel pans. Children were also given free rucksacks and hats.
Event organiser Charlotte Woodford said: “It’s been a great day for the families and the kids to enjoy the wide range of activities.”
