A NEW gardening programme has been launched in Packington Square as part of a scheme to help with redevelopment of the estate. The scheme, called re:Fresh, was launched at the weekend at a community day in the square where residents of all ages are being encouraged to help transform neglected parts into colourful and natural areas.

The scheme will get residents and volunteers planting flowers and maintaining them to improve the open spaces in the area.

The community day also included a range of activities such as face-painting and candle-making, while Planet Organic provided everyone with free fresh soup and fruit.

Speaking on behalf of Hyde Group, who are overseeing the redevelopment of the estate, Anne Heyward said: “We are incredibly proud of Packington Square and what will be achieved here by the end of the regeneration. Residents here are very community spirited and we want to give them the opportunity to transform their

streets into a welcoming, beautiful space. We hope the scheme will be of great interest and encourage as many residents as possible to come together for a shared purpose.”
