DETECTIVES tonight charged a man with the murder of mother-of-two Paul Fields, whose dismembered body parts were found in bags dumped in a canal in Camden Town nine years ago.

John Sweeney, 53, from Kentish Town, was also charged with the killing of Melissa Halstead, 33, a former American model whose body was found in a waterway in Rotterdam in the Netherlands in 1990.

He was arrested on Monday, charged with the murders this evening and will appear at Tower Bridge Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

Ms Fields, 31, (pictured) had been living in Islington. The bags containing her body were fished out of the Regent's Canal in 2001. Ms Halstead's headless body took 18 years to be properly identified.
