One Week With John Gulliver - Anyone know Dermot’s story?
Published: 29 April, 2010
• FRESH white roses tied to a tree made me stop outside Euston Station on Tuesday – tributes to a Big Issue seller who had died, along with cards from friends.
One, signed from “Spud” read: “Dermot was one of the most honest and respectful men I ever met. May your soul rest in peace and your spirit live on.” Another was signed “Toggs ‘n’ Doggs”. It read “Dermot who sold the Big Issue and loved his dog: gone but not forgotten.”
I looked around for anyone who might have known Dermot and asked a homeless man on a bench if he had – but he said he had only just arrived from Ireland.
It made me wonder how many other people had stopped at this tree. Perhaps some knew Dermot.
