SHOPPERS had to look twice as a donkey and his followers stopped traffic in Camden High Street on Sunday.

Larry the donkey, from Hackney City Farm, led around 250 worshippers, backed by a brass band, in the annual march from Oakley Square to St Michael’s Church in Camden Road.

Rather than munching down on hay he was helping to mark Palm Sunday, the day on which Christians remember Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem.

“He had a lovely time,” said Phillip North, team rector at St Michael’s.

“He was full of beans by the end and left most of the procession for dead.

“It was amazing to see the impact we made.

“Even though the high street is so busy, people were stopping to look and join in the singing.”
