Holloway allotment volunteers spring into action

Published: 23 April 2010

VOLUNTEERS will be busy preparing a Holloway allotment for the planting season tomorrow (Saturday).

So far, 15 people have offered to help at Lumpy Hill Adventure Grounds, in Market Road, from 10.30am to 3pm. They receive a free lunch.

Project organiser Mary Makoni said the planting day was a great opportunity to get outdoors, meet new people and share skills.

“Lumpy Hill is one of several adventure playgrounds in Islington that give children the opportunity to have fun outside and to learn through games and play to take controlled risks, be creative and stay fit,” she said.

“Volunteers can give their time when it suits them, allowing them the chance to give back to their community as part of their busy lives. The activities are great for families and friends to join in together, and are really fun too.”

The GO London event is one of the first to be awarded a grant from Community Services Volunteers under its Action Earth campaign, sponsored by supermarket firm Morrisons.
