MORE than 1,000 music fans gathered outside Broadcasting House at the weekend to protest against the planned closure of the BBC 6 Music radio station.

The crowds were in buoyant spirits despite the heavy showers.

They listened to speeches from union officials as well as impromptu performances from bands who had made the trip to Portland Place.

Since the plans were vented in February, a national campaign to block the closure of the digital station has gathered momentum.

Irish band, Black Soul Strangers, were at the forefront of the singing with the Beatles’s anthem

Hey Jude, using the chorus “Hey Beeb”.
