Green campaign a family affair

HUSBAND-and-wife team James Humphreys and Emma Dixon have been splitting their time between looking after their three children and canvassing for the Green Party.

Mr Humphreys, who runs a research business, is contesting Islington South while solicitor Ms Dixon stands in Islington North.

They launch the Green Party’s local manifesto next week.

Mr Humphreys said: “The big thing for Islington is public services. All three parties are almost enjoying saying how much they are going to cut. They say they’ll ringfence health and education but they only talk about frontline services and that’s hard to define.”

He added: “Having good health and education is only part of what you need. The welfare state as a whole has to be ringfenced.

“Because of the deprivation in Islington and the recession, I would make protecting all public services my main priority.”

He joined the Greens because he feels not enough has been done to prevent climate change. “A vote for the Green Party is the best way of showing whoever forms the next government that you want something done about the environment,” he said.
