AN inquest has been formally opened into the death of Malcolm McLaren, the former Sex Pistols manager who died on April 8, aged 64, after being diagnosed with cancer.
Mr McLaren died in a Swiss clinic following a battle with mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer associated with asbestos exposure. An inquest was opened at St Pancras Coroner’s Court on Tuesday and adjourned for further investigations.
The funeral will take place at Highgate Cemetery today (Thursday). The cortege will travel through Camden High Street, Chalk Farm Road, Ferdinand Street, Malden Road and Southampton Road between 1.15pm and 2.15pm.
In a statement, Joseph Corre, Mr McLaren’s son with fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, asked people to shun a minute of silence in favour of a “minute of mayhem” at midday. “Put on your favourite records and let it RIP!” he said.
Human rights charity Humanade, which is run by Mr Corre, has designed a limited edition tribute T-shirt with the slogan “Cash From Chaos”, based on the design worn by Mr McLaren in his 1980 film The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle.
The T-shirt is available from Humanade’s website, with proceeds going to its various causes.
