We’ll do all we can to help those in need

Published: September 15, 2011

FAR from ignoring the open letter printed in the Camden New Journal by Peter O’Grady, I would like to respond to the ongoing unfair criticism being levelled at the council for failing to respond in the letters pages of this newspaper – particularly the letter from Alan Patterson (September 8).

I have arranged a direct meeting with Food for All. Talking face-to-face is often much better than firing letters back and forth.

Now we’ve fixed a date to meet, I look forward to constructive dialogue with Food for All.

Of course, in his defence, Mr Patterson wouldn’t know any of this.

He may also not know that I’ve been a community leader for long enough to have very sad memories of the homeless being hosed down on the Strand in Westminster during the 1990s.

Like Mr Patterson I care deeply about the wellbeing of those unfortunate enough to end up on the streets of London, and their potential vulnerability.

The council will do everything in its power to defend their wellbeing in Camden.
Cllr Sue Vincent
Cabinet Member for Environment
