Standardise provision – from GP to hospital

Published: 29 September, 2011

• AS a retired National Health Service employee, I have suggested to the government that even larger council and NHS services are needed.

This is what’s needed, not the huge cuts in the NHS – in mental health and general hospital services.

Four large NHS departments need to be establshed in the capital (London north, south, east and west) with each providing general, mental and community health services for the people.

Over the past 10 years, health service trusts and foundation trusts have simply fragmented the service.

But, in times of government cuts, what is needed is a form of a standardised service from general practitioners right through to hospital admission.

In times of need, everyone should be entitled to a good quality of healthcare.
