HS2 cost is obscene
Published: September 15, 2011
ON the subject of Michael Williams’s Forum on HS2 (Take the fast track to a new prosperity, September 1) it’s nice to know that I am a rich landowner!
Considering I live in a council flat in Somers Town, Mr Williams doesn’t mention the destruction the HS2 line will cause.
Long-established communities in Somers Town and Regent’s Park will be destroyed. People will have to move away from really close-knit communities.
Where will we go?
If Mr Williams doesn’t like to stand up on his journey, I have the solution: move to Lancashire.
After all, he is ready to make us move. And all this so some rich rail travellers can save a few minutes on each journey.
The cost of the HS2 line is obscene in this day and age.
Also who will work in all these so-called new businesses when all the workers have been moved to other parts of London?
Perhaps they will commute on already overcrowded London Transport!
It’s ironic that these displaced persons are the descendants of the navvies, who built the first railways.
That’s why so many families in Somers Town still have Irish surnames.
I for one hope and pray the HS2 line never comes into being!
