Car door menace

Published: 22 September, 2011

• FIRST I would thank the kind people who came to my aid when I was on my bike and my right hand was badly gashed by a person opening a car door at the traffic lights at the junction of West End Lane and Iverson Road at 2.15pm on September 15.

Second I would remind people to check carefully for cyclists and pedestrians before opening car doors.

I did not get back to work that day, spent the rest of the afternoon in hospital and had to cancel my plans for the weekend.

My impending holiday was jeopardised and I had to pay extra for holiday insurance to cover the injury.

My finger is still painful and, to avoid damage to the wound (which required several stitches), lots of things take longer for me to do and the wound has to be kept dry for at least 10 days.

So there will be no swimming for me on holiday.

This could have been avoided with a little consideration.
