Ensure landlords provide better homes

• COUNCILLOR Julian Fulbrook, Camden Council’s housing chief, wants to “lifeboat people out of the private rented sector, saving money on housing benefits payment and taking people out of poor homes” (Abandoned hospital on market as £30m site for luxury homes, October 6).

Why is he giving up trying to improve private rented homes and leaving tenants to sink or swim on their own?

He should ensure that many more landlords provide better homes, getting many more accredited and able to access grants to improve homes.

He should make sure private rented tenants are well placed to demand improvements – he shouldn’t pull funding from the Camden Federation of Private Tenants.
