Be proud of rail link
Published: October 6, 2011
• ANY big infrastructure project will cause significant disruption but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it. It’s unlucky for the people who are disrupted but without power plants, motorways, railways lines and hospitals our lives would be a lot worse. Camden should be proud the high-speed rail link is ending in this great borough.
Would you guys rather it went to Croydon? I’m sure they’d love to have it.
The economic benefits should not be understated. Decreasing travel time between the UK’s major cities will encourage more people to travel and more business to be done.
For Camden, this means more and better job opportunities, cheaper goods and more of the things people enjoy.
Economic growth is hard to spot. It’s only in 20 years time that people will be able to look back and say: “Look what high-speed rail has done for London.”
Cutting journey times from London to Leeds from two hours and 20 minutes to an hour and 20 minutes will have benefits. People might even find themselves living in one city and commuting to another. Or living in one city and dating in the other.
