At risk – people with mental illness

Published: 26th May, 2011

• SANE is profoundly concerned at the closure of two psychiatric units in Camden and Islington and the serious reduction in available beds this will cause, making it even harder for acutely ill people to be admitted to hospital.

We know these closures will come at the expense of those who, without in-patient care, may be left to suffer loneliness and neglect and at risk of suicide.

Without the backstop of hospital care, and with community teams in the area set to be cut by 40 per cent, we fear people with mental illness will suffer  most.
